It's not uncommon for biological siblings to reunite after being separated through international adoption. In fact, in many cases, an adoptee has a sibling or two living in their birth country.
The Park sisters' story is unique because they've formed a fairly traditional, sisterly bond since their impromptu reunion in 1998. Instead of letting language and cultural barriers divide them, the four sisters grew closer. Michelle and Hyun Jeong especially took interest in the other's lifestyle and culture.
The relationship between the group changed even more in 2009 when Hyun Jeong married an American named Glenn. The two asked Michelle and her husband, Jim, to witness and participate in a traditional Korean wedding. Since then, their bond has continued to evolve.
The Park sisters' relationship gives the world a first look at how biological siblings can become real families. There have been several reunions documented but few stories told of what happens in the long run. We typically hear how an adoptee feels, but we rarely think to ask how a biological sibling processes the adoption.
